Freelove Johnson, b. 26 Mar 1893

Pam's Grandpa and Grandma... Abraham Lincoln Johnson, b. June 16, 1888 at Speight, KY., d. Jan. 22, 1966. On Aug. 16, 1916 he married Freelove Johnson, the daughter of Winfield Scott Johnson and Lovene Fleming. She was born March 26, 1893 at Speight, KY., d. April 19, 1976. Freelove and Lincoln
Lincoln once delivered mail on horseback, in the days before he met Freelove. He always said he had a wild side during those days, but we never knew him to be so. We saw him as a meek and caring person.

A few years before Lincoln and Freelove married, she lost her first husband. She had two children by John Belcher, Johnny Edward and Grace. They were living at Three Mile in Pike, Co. KY., when he was shot. She then met Lincoln, and they married a while later. Freelove believed that plain talk was easy understood. If she thought something, you knew about it in no uncertain terms.

Lincoln and Freelove made their living by gardening, and farming. They always raised big crops, enough for themselves, and enough to sale to those living around them. They also sold eggs, milk and other farm products. They also would hire people to help them in their fields. Usually, the boys did the work, but sometimes they had school and other chores to do. Freelove always had her table full of food for her family and friends. If you were hungry you could always find a meal there. If you were a child with a sweet tooth you could always find candy too.

Both Lincoln and Freelove passed away at the Whitesburg ARH, Whitesburg, KY. Both are buried in the Hemphill Cemetery, Jackhorn, Letcher Co. KY.
