             The Johnson County Conservation District is located in Paintsville in Eastern Kentucky. The 264 square miles of Johnson County are bordered by Lawrence, Morgan, Magoffin, Floyd, and Martin Counties.

             Paintsville, the county seat is located in the Big Sandy River watershed. Approximately ninety percent of tributary streams run into the Big Sandy Watershed. The district consists of some 168,916 acres of which 8,000 acres are owned by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and leased to the KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and the Kentucky State Parks.

             The district sponsors several educational programs, including the Poster and Essay contest as well as the Conservation Day for all of the 4th Graders in Johnson County.

             Currently, the district is administering two conservation programs, including the Forage Improvement Program and Beef Cattle Handling Facilities Program. Both are a 50% cost-share program. For more information, contact the office today!
