The City of Caneyville
Caneyville is a sixth class city with a population of 589 (1992 est.) located 13 miles southwest of Leitchfield. Begun as a pioneer trading post just below the forks of Caney Creek, the town was charactered by the Kentucky Legislature on April 9, 1880. In the early years, it served as a trade center for the region, shipping a variety of produce and products down Caney Creek to the Ohio and the Mississippi Rivers.
This rural community is by no means secluded. Caneyville is located on U.S. Highway 62, with both an entrance and exit ramp to the Western Kentucky Parkway, and a railroad lies within the city limits. Two truck lines are located in Caneyville, on a major transit system.
An industrial park, with water and sewage services available from the city, is a site for development. An additional fifty businesses are located throughout the city.
Recreation and community events are cherished in Caneyville. Each are cherished in Caneyville. Each summer, the community park is alive with T-ball, softball, and baseball teams engaged in spirited competiveness. Leagues from across the state participate in local tournaments throughout the summer.
The Grayson County All Terrain Vehicles Club sponsors a competitive event in Caneyville several times a year, drawing up to 1,000 people from across the United States. And each October, strong community ties are evident as friends and relatives reserve the first weekend for the annual homecoming.
